Abstract Ɩ Full Text
The main focus of this study is to examine the direct relationship between individual factors and tacit knowledge-sharing. A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed to the technical staff of the ICT sector in Jordan. Out of 400, only 365 were usable for further analysis, representing a response rate of 92.75%. Hypotheses for direct effect were tested using multiple regression analyses. Factors such as individual attitude, organizational commitment, knowledge self-efficacy, were found positively related to tacit knowledge-sharing.
Keywords: Tacit knowledge-sharing, individual attitude, organizational commitment, knowledge self-efficacy.

Abstract Ɩ Full Text
Ergonomics is one of the most important elements which influence both the productivity and the quality of workers’ output. Avoidance of the ergonomic consideration while designing the work and work process increases stress among workers. The main purpose of this paper is to identify the relationship between ergonomic factors and stress among manufacturing workers. This quantitative research was conducted in Bangi, Selangor. A total of 100 completed questionnaires were used in the data analysis process. Findings show that work design, work process design, working hours, and workload have significant and positive relationships on stress among the respondents.
Keywords: Ergonomic factors, stress, manufacturing sector, work design, work process design, workload.

Abstract Ɩ Full Text
This paper offers a new, hybrid multiple attribute decision-making (MADM) procedure which can be employed to quantitatively develop the optimal strategies for inflating students’ satisfaction of university hostels. The procedure uses: the systematic random stratified sampling approach for data collection purpose as students dwelling in hostels are ‘naturally’ grouped by block and gender, factor analysis to extract a large set of hostel attributes into independent factors, the Sugeno measure for characterizing the type of interaction shared by the hostel attributes within each extracted factor, the Delphi method for obtaining a well-agreed importance ranking on the extracted factors and finally, a non-linear fuzzy prioritization (NLFP) method for determining the weights of the independent hostel factors. The feasibility of the proposed procedure is illustrated by conducting a real evaluation involving Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) hostels. The proposed procedure has the ability to identify the actual factors influencing students’ satisfaction along with the weights of the factors and the type of interaction shared by the attributes within each of these factors and thus enable the management of a university to make better-informed decisions pertaining to the strategies.
Keywords: Better-informed decisions, hostel satisfaction, interactive hostel attributes, multiple attribute decision-making, Sugeno measure.

Abstract Ɩ Full Text
Seafood security through aquaculture is a topic of strategic national importance for many countries, including Malaysia. With production from fisheries unable to meet the demand, aquaculture is set to play an increasing role in seafood supply. Aquaculture started booming in the 1990s, just when the capture fisheries showed distinct signs of stagnation. The rapid growth of aquaculture and the rising demand have created challenges which researchers and the seafood industry must address through collective action to enable this sector to grow at the rate needed for a sustainable food future. Malaysia has identified aquaculture as a key economic area under its new economic model and developed mechanisms to achieve the targets. This requires knowledge-based developments and cultivating links between the academia and the farming sector in an environment that seeks solutions through innovation. It makes a great difference when institutions of higher education decide to spearhead interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research that has ingredients for nurturing an innovation ecosystem. This provides a platform for a link-up with the aquaculture industry and the traditional fish-farming community. The blending of modern and traditional knowledge and diversification of approaches with new perspectives focused on solutions will probably yield positive outcomes from a policy that supports new pathways for achieving seafood security for socio-economic welfare.

Abstract Ɩ Full Text
In improving the health status of the people, Malaysia continuously provides a more equitable distribution of facilities and efficient health services. Due to the increasing proportion of the aging population in the country, this paper examines the differences in the utilisation of the health services among the elderly in Malaysia and identifies the factors responsible for the observed changes between 1996 and 2006 by using the non-linear decomposition approach. The empirical analysis uses the second and third National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMSII and NHMSIII) data which were conducted in 1996 and 2006. Overall, the findings of this research suggest that other than being sick, the raw differentials in the utilisation of healthcare among the elderly are influenced by socioeconomic status such as education, income, and job status. From this study, it is hoped that by understanding the factors that contribute to the differentials in public and private hospital admissions, and individual’s behaviour towards the use of healthcare services, the government can develop strategies for eliminating socially-caused inequity in health. Reducing financial barriers to care, especially among the private health providers, may benefit the lower socioeconomic group.
